On 21 June 2023, the Minister of Regional Development, Mr. Fikrim Damka, participated in the opening ceremony of NEWCO Ferronikeli Manufacturing in the Municipality of Drenas.
Investments are a very strong basis for the economic development of any country, and especially countries in transition such as Kosovo, so foreign investments have had a rapid growth over the years. Driven by technological change, global competition and market liberalization, foreign investment plays a key role in the process of global economic integration.
Attracting foreign direct investment is one of the most important strategies for developing countries to increase capital formation in order to generate a higher amount of GDP. Foreign investment brings the necessary capital, increases the productivity of economy through the transfer of knowledge and technology, influence the opening of new markets for trade, increase economic competition, influence the reduction of the current account deficit, increase employment and, above all, influence the well-being of the population. Kosovo has great potential to become a popular country for foreign direct investment as well as to attract capital, information and technology.
Ferronikeli, which is among the biggest assets of Kosovo, will add even more value to itself as well as to the national and regional sphere with this investment.
Without a doubt, Feronikeli, which is the source of the livelihood of thousands of families, will also contribute to the well-being of the Republic of Kosovo in the micro and macro aspects by contributing to its strengthening.
Ferronikeli as an investment in heavy industry, with the work and the concentrated strategy of the Turkish investor, Yildirim Holding, will be an enormous and the most prestigious factory for metallurgy in the Republic of Kosovo.
Worthy of note is the essential role of Turkish investors during these last years and their contribution to Kosovo’s economy. Turkey has invested in many sectors, such as the banking sector, airport management, energy, manufacturing and services. As we have witnessed in many fields, Turkey is one of our main partners in the field of economy and will continue to increase investments in our country.
In the last two years, our government paid special attention to creating a business environment as suitable as possible and a climate as favorable as possible for foreign direct investments. Therefore, we are keen to make structural reforms for foreign direct investment to attract more investors.
